It Is My Christmas And My Christ

The Christmas season is approaching and it is nearly here. Santa and sleigh bells and songs will fill the air. We will soon be enjoying the warmth of the yuletide logs in the fireplace, the wonderful smell of the turkey cooking and the sweet taste apple and cherry pies.

Santa will drop down the chimney`s with lots of gifts for good little boys and girls everywhere. We will hear the click, click of reindeer hooves as they go from chimney to chimney.

My children are past the age of Santa Clause and well aware of the reason for the season. Christmas was a time to honor the birth of Christ. They know this day has been respected and celebrated for centuries and will continue to be.

My boys are aware that it is a time of giving. Not really a time of shopping, but still a time of giving. A time to give to another the gift of friendship, understanding, love and a prayer for their continued future happiness and success.

A long time ago I was employed as a retail clerk in a grocery store working with the public. We always had to be there for those last minute forgotten items needed on Christmas eve and we often missed time with our own families.

The employer understood that everyone had family and kids they wanted to spend the day with so he would start sending people home as early as possible. I was a long time employee with seniority so I was always one of the first to allowed to go home.

As I said, my kids were past the age of Santa so I would ask to stay and be one of the last to leave so those with young children could have the time at home. The Boss agreed and let others go home.

There was one young man who always managed to be the first to leave, always. He had two kids both under the Santa age and we all thought it was good for him to be with them.

He managed to be among the first to go for several Christmases. It made everyone feel good that he shared the time with his family.

After a couple of years it was discovered that he and his family were among those who did not believe in Christmas. They did not believe in God. He was an atheist in his beliefs.

The finding of that information was a shock to those who had given up time with their own families for the benefit of he who had young kids supposedly waiting for Santa.

Needless to say, his actions created hatred and mistrust by all those concerned. However, in the way of the good Christian, he was soon forgiven for his misguided actions.

As long as he remained in the employ of the company he was never sent home early again, from there on he was the last to go.
