Happy Canada Day!
This is the federal statutory holiday in memory of the union of the British North American colonies into one Dominion of Canada (formerly known as the holiday - Dominion Day). The Act of the British North America united into the Confederation first colonies of British North America - Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick - came into force on 1 July 1867 and laid the foundation for the existence of a new country. One after another, six provinces were joined to the Dominion by the end of the XIX century. In 1949 the tenth province of Canada, the former British Dominion of Newfoundland, joined to the Confederation. Today, in addition to the ten provinces, Canada has three Northern Territories.
Canadians celebrate the birthday of their country with great enthusiasm. Anniversary ceremonies and parades, concerts and outdoor performances of choirs and orchestras, luxury holidays and evening fireworks are held in the country.
In the province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada Day is celebrated as Memorial Day. Residents of the province on that day give special honors to the memory of his countrymen who were killed on the battlefields of Europe during World War II.
