TORONTO –
Toronto Arts Foundation is delighted to partner with TELUS on the TELUS Newcomer Artist Award, a $10,000 award designed to celebrate a professional newcomer artist in the City of Toronto.
Administered by one of The Foundation’s strategic initiatives, the Neighbourhood Arts Network, this transformative award is for a resident Toronto newcomer artist making a positive impact in the community. This award is intended to provide an artist with the resources needed to be even more successful in their artistic practice.
“Toronto Arts Foundation is pleased to be partnering with TELUS on this award,” said Claire Hopkinson, Director & CEO, Toronto Arts Foundation. “Toronto is home to a large number of newcomer artists, so many of whom are contributing to their local communities in meaningful ways. This is an exceptional way to celebrate their accomplishments.”
The TELUS Newcomer Artist Award will provide the winning artist with a $10,000 cash award. Applications (paper and online) will be available starting Monday July 15th on the Neighbourhood Arts Network website
www.neighbourhoodartsnetwork.org Applications will be assessed by a multidisciplinary jury selected by the Neighbourhood Arts Network and Toronto Arts Foundation.
“No matter how talented you might be, pursuing your artistic career when first immigrating to a new country is often not a viable option. We are striving to build greater partnerships with local settlement agencies and newcomer artists to support the creativity and talent prominent within Toronto’s newcomer communities,” said Ella Cooper, Senior Coordinator, Neighbourhood Arts Network. “This partnership with TELUS is one of a kind, and we are excited to help administer such a wonderful opportunity for a newcomer artist based here in the city.”
