Explore Toronto’s striking Waterfront through the original and inspiring images from some of Toronto’s best amateur photographers at the 3rd Annual My Waterfront Photo Exhibit in Queen’s Quay Terminal (207 Queens Quay West), which showcases images from the 50 winning finalists of the My Waterfront Photo Contest. The Artist Preview Gala on Friday, September 27 at 6pm will launch the exhibit and guests are invited to mingle with the artists and judges and vote for their favourite photo. The photo with the most votes will win the «People’s Choice Award» trophy, a pair of tickets for a Mariposa Cruises Dinner Cruise ($172.50 value) and the exhibit piece will feature a «People’s Choice Award» ribbon throughout the length of the exhibit. Food service proudly provided by Mariposa Cruises and Sobey’s. The exhibit will remain on display until November 3.
«The My Waterfront Photo Exhibit gives amateur photographers the opportunity to have their work showcased in a public forum,» states Carol Jolly, Executive Director, The Waterfront BIA. «Experience Toronto’s Waterfront through amazing photos of landscapes, festivals, attractions, dining, family fun and of course, people enjoying all the waterfront has to offer!»
Amateur photographers submitted their original photos to the My Waterfront Photo Contest in the summer for a chance to be featured in the My Waterfront Photo Exhibit. From over 400 submissions a panel of esteemed judges selected 50 finalists from the My Waterfront Photo Contest to have their photo printed as a 24x36» poster and displayed at the award-winning Queen’s Quay Terminal from September 28 to November 3. All entries were judged on overall impact, originality, artistic merit, composition and technical excellence.
The panel of judges consisted of: Don Shipley, Creative Director Arts, Culture and Festivals at TO2015, PanAm Games; Julian Sleath, Programming Manager at City of Toronto Special Events; Ron Hartwell, Associate Photo Editor at National Post; Terri Nowik and Mark Hamilton, Light Monkey Photography.
The Artist Preview Gala is part of the 2013 Culture Days weekend taking place coast to coast from September 27-29, 2013. The first annual Canada-wide Culture Days celebration was held in September 2010 over three days in more than 700 Canadian cities and towns. Culture Days is a pan-Canadian celebration of arts and culture. Culture Days invites everyone to explore, discover and participate in arts and culture in every community across Canada.
